Tucker Carlson Interviews Iuliia Mendel

At the end, she addresses Vladimir Putin directly.  Transcript below.

Iuliia Mendel (Speaking in Russian):
Vladimir Vladimirovich, with all your life experience I don't understand how you see this world.  But I'm not a NATO representative, not a Western representative, and I don't work for Zelensky — they're political opponents.  You're not a threat to me.  I'm a Ukrainian woman from provincial Kherson.

You say you're a man of God, but what's happening in Ukraine has nothing to do with God or humanity.  You say you want peace — the only right thing today.  It's the only way Ukraine and Russia can both win.  No victor.  Both lose.  Slavs kill Slavs.

Your army tells you only noble victories, but there's a drone safari on people.  My mom, a nurse, was talking on the phone going home — a Russian drone wounded her.  Another nurse, back from her grandson's birthday in my Kherson village, was killed by a Russian drone getting out of her car.  We see videos of old people evacuating, falling in blood and snow, shocked by explosions.

On frontlines, the oldest and poorest have no money to leave.  Your army posts videos hunting people with drones.  There must be limits of humanity.  One word, one order from you can stop this.

You want peace?  Stop.  No one may thank you, but people will know.  Peace is the only possible decision today.

[Grok translation]
Ordinarily I would not take such a speech seriously.  And I confess, at the beginning of this video, I did not really take her seriously.  Her English is imperfect and she is too pretty.  At first glance she comes across as a pretty Ukrainian woman who lacks depth and seriousness.  This is incorrect.

I'm telling you, set your stereotypes aside and listen to her.  If you watch the video, it becomes clear that she is a master of her subject, Volodymyr Zelensky, and she deserves our attention.  She describes Zelensky as a tyrannical child who simply does not want the war to end, because that would end his grift.  That sounds about right to me.

And this ending was completely unexpected, which I guess is what makes it notable.  Because I don't see Putin responding at all, even if he does see it.  I just wish she would have also addressed her fellow Ukrainians.  Message:  Arrest Zelensky before he plunders the entire country and gets us all killed.

Why Label Someone Fascist?

Who is the audience for "fascist" and "nazi" and "Hitler"?

I used to think that people on the left threw these terms about as a form of hyperbole.  I would think:  Oh that's ridiculous, he knows that is not true, and he is just being overly dramatic.  Makes a good soundbite, appeals to his base, etc.

But now that there have been two assassination attempts on Donald Trump, and Charlie Kirk is dead, I have changed my mind.  In fact, I now believe that I was simply naive about what they were doing and continue to do.

When people on the left label Donald Trump and Charlie Kirk fascists and nazis, who are they talking to?  That is, who is the audience that they are addressing?

I see three possibilities.  Let's take them in turn.

One:  People on the right.  When Kamala Harris told Anderson Cooper that, yes, she does believe that Donald Trump is a fascist, was she hoping to win converts and/or voters from the right?  This seems implausible.

Two:  Sensible people on the left.  Such as they are.  Was Harris talking to intelligent people on the left?  That is, people who are fully aware that Donald Trump is not anything like Adolf Hitler, or any actual fascist.  If you have any sense at all, while this language may not cause you to leave the party, you are unlikely to find it appealing.  If for no other reason than you know better.  But the sensible left-of-center types will shrug and vote for Harris anyway.

But we have to ask ourselves:  How far left does this crowd extend?  I am not at all sure, and no doubt, there is a great deal of blur.  But somewhere to the left of the sensible left, there are the far left kooks.

Three:  The far left kooks.  These are the people who say to themselves, well if Kamala Harris states so matter-of-factly that Donald Trump is a fascist, it must be true.  And since it is true that Donald Trump is a fascist, he should be dealt with properly.  And if I am the one who does so, I will be a hero.

Now group three throws these terms around all the time...for each other.  I suppose to prove their bona fides.  Just have a quick visit to Bluesky to see this in real time.

It can be argued that, at one time, the left threw these terms around to unjustly drive someone out of polite society.  To cancel and censor them for no good reason.  As with racist and sexist, and homophobic and islamophobic.  But to the extent that this worked, they overplayed their hand.  And now those days are over.

So if Kamala Harris was not being hyperbolic, then the question becomes:  When she made this claim, who was she talking to?

I submit that she was talking to group three.

Why?

She already had their votes.

What was her goal?  In fact, what is the goal of anyone on the left throwing these terms around?  They know it is not true, and most of their various audiences know it is not true.  So why do they do it?

Why indeed.

Finally, we must ask:  But don't people on the far right behave in the same way?

Okay, so do they?

I mean, how often do we hear the far right throw around terms like Stalin and bolshevik?  That would be the equivalent to Hitler and fascist, right?  Oh sure, some on the right will use terms like socialist to describe the left.  But surely it lacks...er, the death toll.

And besides, today, an increasing number of far left politicians are embracing the term.

Missed Trump, Got Kirk

Who is next?

Charlie Kirk
Make no mistake about it, they want to kill you.  And me.  And anyone else who opposes their radical agenda.

Now, who is they?  Well it is not just those two guys with guns.  Have you listened to how the left talks these days?  They rage and they condescend.  Often they are angry and radical.  And most importantly, they are intolerant of any views differing from their own.  They do not want to engage in honest debate; they want to cancel and banish.  And if they cannot do that, well, then what?

And the smug moral superiority that they all seem to share.  Surely this encourages the whole leftist spectrum to act more radically.  I mean, they are on the correct side of history.  And we on the right are evil.  Just ask them.

Their moral superiority is a form of self-deception.  And lack of confidence in their principles.  But they are too self-assured to question their own views.  And yes, anyone on the left who does question will be banished; it is for this reason that the thoughtful people on the left, such as they are, keep quiet.

I once told a leftist friend of mine that I see more intellectual diversity on the right than on the left.  She laughed at me.  Of course.

Mark my words, they will use this incident to push for gun control.  Just imagine, kill a right-wing activist with a gun and then argue that we need to get rid of guns.

It is the hypocrisy of the left, about everything, that we all notice.  John Kerry and his private jets; Hillary Clinton and her many guns.

So this is, I believe, a true turning point.  Things will either get radically better or radically worse.  I cannot predict which.  But I know one thing for sure:  Hold on to your guns.  You might need them.

One final thought on this.  Murder is the ultimate form of censorship.  The left will be all too happy if we on the right stop talking because we are afraid that we too might be shot.  In the leftist mind, the ends absolutely justify the means.  And I think, to some extent this will work.  Tucker, Candace, Elon, Ben Shapiro, Megyn Kelly; what are these people, and many others, going to do now?  I notice Brandon Tatum also holds Kirk-style events on campus.  None of these guys, no matter how famous they are, can afford Secret Service level protection.

The left will be all too happy if theirs becomes the only narrative:  Yes, yes, this is terrible, a tragedy, see we told you about guns, etc.  But yes absolutely, we need to trans kids in schools without the knowledge of their parents.  See, no one disagrees with that.

They're giddy tonight.

On Our Parchment Guarantee

An extra-constitutional response is necessary

Is anyone on the Right willing to do what it takes to stop the Left from behaving unconstitutionally?

I have written before that when one side acts unconstitutionally, the other cannot hope to win by adhering to the Constitution.  You may retain the moral high ground, but what does that gain you?  You think dictators care about the moral high ground?  No, they only care about power.

In the United States today, the situation is this.  The Democrats will do anything they can get away with to retain power.  Not anything constitutional.  Anything they can get away with.  And it is worth noticing how genuinely and smugly gleeful they are about it.

Will anyone stop them?

I have no faith that anyone will.  By the end of 2024, the United States will officially have become a one party state.  How long after that will it take to become fully Soviet?

They want to put Donald Trump in the gulag.  You think he will be the last?  No, no, they will find a way to imprison any serious opposition candidate.  Now that they know they can get away with it, this will become their go to strategy.

But what could be done?

Well, firstly, other states, other red states, could simply refuse to extradite Donald Trump to New York.  Nope, we are not going to honor our constitutional responsibilities simply to fulfill your unconstitutional kangaroo court orders.

Further, red states simply must be willing to not comply with US government policies and any court orders to enforce them.  For instance, red states should militarize the southern border.  That's what any other sovereign nation would have done already.

But these are really just intermediate steps that could eventually lead to civil war.  Sure one can hope to avoid war.  But we simply must not allow the possibility of war to deter us from appropriate (necessarily extra-constitutional) responses.  And I just don't think we have the moral leadership on the Right to act in this principled manner.

Could someone emerge?  I guess it's possible.  But it will not be Donald Trump.  How do we know this?  Because he was in power for four years, and did not really put up much of a fight.  He is a man who simply enjoys the trappings of power.  And like most people on the Right, he is under the misconception that the Constitution still matters.

That's what they all think.

In fact, the Right is so deluded that we still live in a constitutional republic that they will allow Trump to be jailed.  I guess as some kind of martyr who will eventually, constitutionally, prevail.  But even if he is not immediately jailed, Trump's appeals process must work its way through the New York courts before the US Supreme Court will consider it.  How many years will that take?  It's a game for suckers.  Even if Trump does ultimately prevail, it will be late in Michelle Obama's first term.  And by then, he will be too old to be a threat.  And even if there are aspects of this case that can be immediately appealed to federal court, they are not going to be resolved before Michelle takes office in January.

But if the constitutional process is over, just for fun let's imagine what could be done?  Well, Trump could go home to Florida and pick a fight with the New York judge (really the whole state of New York).  Campaign on the fact that the New York legal system has gone full Blue Kangaroo.  Disregard any gag orders.  DeSantis would have to reject any extradition request.  Same for other red states.

In other words, a unified Right must start fighting the Left under the new rules, the extra-constitutional rules, set by the Left.  Otherwise, the Left will happily put Trump in jail.  Like any other banana republic.  If this scenario sounds ridiculous or unlikely to you, it is.  But it is where we are today; the ridiculous has become reality.

I don't really think Trump has it in him.  And even if he could find the moral courage, I think he still loses the election.  The Democrats control the election process (the machinery and logistics) and they will not and cannot allow any Republican to win.

As I have written previously, I just cannot see the Right engaging in civil war.  Even if it becomes necessary.  That is, even if it becomes the only option available.

Even if it becomes the only moral option.

So we either live under Democrat one-party rule, or we leave the country.

The End of Thought

You get to choose:  War or a one-party state

I wrote recently that it is time to flee the United States.  Certainly the smart money is in the process of doing just that.  But for those who cannot do so, or are not inclined to do so, what will the country look like?  I mean intermediate term, say the next five to ten years.

Well US citizens have a choice.  They can choose war.  Or they can choose to live under the otherwise inevitable one-party state.

Let's take war first, because I think it is rather easily dealt with.  The possibility of war rests on the fact that Americans are armed to the teeth.  While Joe Biden threatens second amendment types with fighter jets and cruise missiles, any real conflict will be fought with small arms.  Why?  Because the enemy is not confined to any particular state or group of states.  The enemy is next door.  This is why, for all their advanced weaponry, left-of-center types remain so opposed to the second amendment:  They are scared to death that one day someone will simply shoot them with a small caliber weapon.

But we are a fat, rich country of lazy couch potatoes, and armed or not, I just don't see your typical right-of-center American shooting anyone.  On the other hand, I can see left-of-center government types shooting their fellow citizens.

So the left is rightfully scared to death of all the small arms.  And they will continue to erode, and eventually revoke, the second amendment.  And I suppose it is possible that this constitutional treason could spark a war.

But this is not at all clear to me.  How will gun owners react to state-mandated gun registration and later to gun confiscation?  For now, some loudly proclaim bold resistance.  But my guess is that most gun owners will grudgingly comply; so much easier than the risk of becoming an unemployable criminal with a record.

And with their compliance the possibility of war dies.  But as bloody as a second civil war might be, it is the preferable of the two possibilities.

Because short of war, we can only look forward to the coming one-party state.  I view this as inevitable.  What will this look like?  Think the current university environment applied to society as a whole.  But with guns.  Another reason why left-of-center government types want a monopoly on firearms; so they will be able to do anything they like.  And no one can stop them.

So they will be absolutely free to rig the elections on a broad scale.  Who is going to report this?  And who is going to stop them?  No one.

There will be kangaroo courts (we're already seeing this), we will also see an increasing number of political prisoners, and yes, we will see gulags.  Although they will come up with new vocabulary for all of this.  Something less Soviet.  Because Soviet is exactly what it will be.  Something woke and friendly like:  Center for re-inclusion.

If you think Tucker Carlson, Ben Shapiro, and Elon Musk are going to stop this, I applaud your optimism.  But if the government is not able to shut down their content distribution, they will find some excuse to disappear these guys.  I mean if the FBI has to plant child pornography on their laptops, again, who is going to stop them?

Now one final question:  Can we avoid a one-party state without war?  Two points.  First, look at the current tactics of the left, and understand that they are going to get more extreme and more dirty.  Second, for the most part, right-of-center types are not street fighters.  And they are under the illusion that we are in the middle of a civilized constitutional debate.  They could not be more wrong.

How do you have a constitutional fight where the other side completely ignores the constitution?  And the constitution will not provide much protection when the Gestapo shows up at your door looking for child pornography.  I have written before on how, in the United States, the constitutional process is over, and like it or not, right-of-center types need to adjust.  I just do not believe they will, or even have the capacity to, do so; it is not in their nature.

So get used to the idea of life in a Soviet-style authoritarian system.  Sure, you may find full compliance difficult.  But there is one redeeming quality that so many of our fellow citizens truly desire.  Over the last few generations, certainly back to the baby boomers, Americans have lost any faculty for critical thought.

And soon, they won't even have to pretend to think.

Time to Flee?

The Psychosis of the American Left

First let's make a list.  In no particular order:

  • Mass Narcissism  Social media use, tattoos and piercings, smartphone addiction, celebrity culture, the popularity of TikTok and OnlyFans.

  • Urban Decay  Crime, lawlessness, homelessness, and an unwillingness to seriously address these issues.  The people who run our large cities are corrupt and/or incompetent, and as a result the cities do not work and are not safe.

  • Gender  Pronoun madness and the cult of gender ideology, including transitioning children.  And the self-righteousness that surrounds these issues.

  • Woke Ideology  The oppressor/oppressed narrative, the intersectional oppression olympics, patriarchy/privilege ideology.

  • Racial Friction  The current movement against a color-blind society, the promotion of race over merit, DEI and CRT driven racial animus.

  • Reparations  Using the fantasy of reparations to further gin up anger in the black community and interracial discord.  Reparations are a lose/lose proposition:  Pay them and go bankrupt; don't pay them and further aggrieve the black community.

  • Free Speech  The rejection of free speech, censorship, and cancel culture.

  • One-Party State  The desire for single-party rule (as in California) at any cost, and the end of free and fair elections to insure it.  This is why the Left hates the idea of any requirement to show identification to vote.

  • Anti-Semitism  The rise of left-of-center anti-Semitism, and at the same time, the promotion of the ridiculous and factitious concept of islamophobia.

  • Israel Attitude  Israel is the only western-style democracy in a wasteland of autocratic theocracies.  Yet many on the left actively support its enemies.  Hamas kills babies and takes hostages; only the truly psychotic would support these barbarians.  Yet there they are, overflowing on the streets and in our universities.

  • Open Borders  Replacement theory, systemic stress, or merely leftist stimulated chaos?  Drug entry, use, and violence up.  Certainly we see economic migrants as well as an influx of military-aged males without families, most notably from China.

  • Big Pharma  The doping of America:  Over 65 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription.  And over-the-counter drugs sit on top of that.  Further, big pharma has completely corrupted American healthcare, its regulators, and American media.

  • Marijuana  Deregulation, because what we need are more non-productive citizens, who aren't paying attention.

  • Covid Response  The utter insanity of how lefty elites responded to Covid, with lockdowns and vaccine mandates.  But that is not the worst of it.  The worst is how everyday, garden-variety left-of-center types went hysterical.

  • Climate  The so-called climate emergency, the authoritarian possibilities it presents the left, using the Covid lockdown and vaccine hysteria as a model.

  • Energy Policy  Whether it is oil, renewables, coal, nuclear, natural gas and LNG, electric vehicles, consumer appliances, whatever, everything the left does is absolute madness.  All of it.

  • Government  The weaponization of the Justice Department and all other government departments.  The politicalization of the Border Patrol; the FBI has become the DNC's Gestapo.

  • Media  The end of independent media, the rise of the government-media complex.  The end of journalism and the rise of narrative and dogma.

  • Truth  The rise of subjective truth.  In the past we disagreed over the meaning of facts.  Today, we disagree over even the most basic facts themselves.

  • Debt  Unsustainable (and still rising) sovereign debt.

  • Education  The complete collapse of K-12 and post-secondary education, the rise of indoctrination masquerading as education.

  • Foreign Policy  A completely chaotic foreign policy.  Entanglement in conflicts outside of US interests.  Which is part of a greater lack of focus, where our allies cannot depend on us, and our adversaries do not fear us.

  • Political Globalization  Surrendering sovereignty to global entities such as the WEF, WHO, and the UN, run by unelected and unaccountable lefty elites.

  • The Progressive Agenda  The entire academy-led progressive religion.  Let's call it the government is god doctrine.

  • The Obama Factor  The coming Michelle Obama presidency.  This will start, January, 2025.  It will be Obama's fourth term.

Also coming soon:  The rise of political prisoners.  The Left will label right-of-center speech and assembly terroristic or incitement to terrorism and will prosecute accordingly.  They have been testing the waters on this strategy.  It will begin in earnest in the next administration.

That's quite a list.

And writing it out, I could not help but think that there must be some method to the madness.  It's insanity, but is there a purpose?  What we seem to have here is resentment, conflict, deception, and chaos, as political tools.  How long before we see widespread violence?  And maybe some level of violence is the intermediate goal?

But why?  One theory is:  Because then, the people will demand that government do something about it (the violence).  Right?  And the something will be something that ordinarily the people would never allow.  And whatever it is, it will lead to a more autocratic government.  Which of course, is the ultimate goal.  Call this the Rahm Emanuel theory.  Emanuel of course said, Never let a crisis go to waste.  But the part left unsaid is, Even if you first have to manufacture the crisis.

But we have to admit that, there is another other possibility.  What if there is no plan other than chaos and the breakdown of society?  Call this the George Soros theory.  Here I think the people controlling the biggest guns are assuming that it will work out in their favor.  And of course, they're probably correct.  In any case, we will again end up with a more autocratic government.

One final theory, and of course there may be others, is that the above list is completely organic.  Our culture and society have simply deteriorated to this deceptive, violent, and chaotic state.  This is the Occam's razor theory.  And to the extent that lefty elites would acknowledge a problem, this would surely be their argument.  But even if this is correct, at some point we'll see the rise of a strongman or competing strongmen.  And that'll be fun.

Now, who's to blame?  I make this point all the time, but it is impossible to overstate.  I do not blame Obama or Biden or Rahm Emanuel or any of their perfidious ilk.  These guys are simply power-hungry rent-seekers, taking advantage of the cultural milieu, broken as it clearly is.  These guys could not care less about the above policies, or any policies.  They are only interested in policy to the extent that it helps them achieve and maintain power.

No, rather, the fault lies with the half of the country that votes for these policies and votes for the politicians, like Obama and Emanuel, spuriously supporting and advocating for these policies.  That's your neighbors, your family and friends, your colleagues and co-workers, etc.  Half the people you know either actively or tacitly support the above listed insanity.  They are the problem.  They are not going to change.  And what, with their tattoos and drugs and subjective truth and woke ideology, they are too unthinking to change.  And most importantly, they are not going anywhere...

So, I cannot tell you whether it is time to flee, or not.  I can only tell you that I have already left.

Memo to Conservatives

Banana Republic Rules

Just yesterday, the sitting US president approved, and probably ordered, a raid on the home of the immediate past US president, who importantly also happens to be a contender to unseat that same sitting president.  Got that?  When did the US become Paraguay?

On the pretext of looking for classified documents, this was obviously a fishing expedition designed to intimidate Trump, and others.  I mean dear reader, what would they find if they pulled fifteen boxes of documents out of your house?  There'd be something.  What if we could pull fifteen boxes of documents out of the Clinton's house?  And they forced Trump's attorneys to leave.  Why?  So how can we ever be certain the political thugs that we call the FBI did not plant evidence?  How sad it is that, in the past few years, the FBI has tossed its once sterling reputation.

For many years, I have advised residents of blue cities across the US to flee.  This was, and is, the only rational course of action for those residents.  Take your family, your business, your vote, your taxes, even your mere presence, and go somewhere else.  But when the Democrat machine takes over the country, to where is one supposed to flee?

It seems to me that the current situation in the US leads to one of two possibilities.  First, conservatives can submit to lefty rule.  Let's call this the European path.  We will not like it, but it does offer a more leisurely lifestyle.  After all, why work hard for other people, other people's families, and the government power elite?  Sit back and relax.  Retire early, find a hobby.  Take up needlepoint.  Maybe stock up on a few necessities.

Of course, like our European friends, you'll have less children because you cannot afford them.  You'll pay seven dollars a gallon for gasoline, if you are even able to afford a vehicle.  Our open-border country will be swarming with illegal aliens.  Taxes will be confiscatory.  Climate change will become a continuous emergency giving government types every excuse they need to do anything they want.  Oh, and you might want to brush up on modern pronoun usage.

Sound familiar?  Yes of course, this is the default path we are currently on.

But the other path is even less appealing.  It involves fighting for our values.  Here, I do not mean a political fight within our system.  Our system is broken.  Now let's stop for a moment:  How do I know this for sure?  Because the left does not fear the precedent they just set.  Stop and think about that.  Would they take this reckless action if they had any fear that it could, in turn, be used against them?  No, they will never allow, could never allow, a raid on the homes of the Clinton's or the Biden's.

In any case the left is immune to consequences.  After the Hunter Biden laptop farce, and Hillary Clinton's numerous shenanigans, they know a complicit press makes them immune to any consequences for any malfeasance.  Further, they have politicized all agencies of the federal government to do their bidding.  At this point their impunity is comical, but at the same time vital for their continued hold on power.

I think we should carefully consider what it means for them not to fear the precedent.  It means they fully intend to remain in power.  Indefinitely and regardless of what it takes to do so.  They will lie, cheat, and steal.  They will intimidate.  They will raid their opponents homes and offices.  How long before they shut down television networks and political websites?  I mean, that Tucker Carlson and all his disinformation.  Ultimately they will be arresting their political opponents like all self-respecting banana republics.

So what does fighting for our values look like?  Can we not use our constitutional framework to constrain our burgeoning banana republic?  Well, all banana republics have constitutions.  And all banana republics ignore their respective constitutions.  Antonin Scalia reminded us that a constitution is a mere parchment guarantee, easily ignored, especially with single-party rule.  When there is concentration of power in one person or in one party, Scalia says...when that happens, the game is over.  He was referring to the constitutional process.

So here's the real question:  Is our constitutional process over?  You must decide for yourself.  Many good conservatives will argue that of course, it's not over.  The conservative tendency is to follow and fulfill our constitutional mandates.  The problem with this thinking is that it does not appreciate how much animosity there is for the Constitution on the left.  Obama called it a charter of negative liberties.  They hate the constraints it places on government.  And you know, of course, without such constraints, the left could use government to usher in a new utopia.  So, many left-of-center types would be thrilled to scrap it.  You've heard the arguments:  Replace it with a modern, living constitution.  What they really want is a constitution more malleable to their ever-changing whims.

Whims masquerading as policy goals.  But don't make the mistake of assuming that the left cares about policy.  They only care about policy insofar as it helps them achieve and maintain power.  Good policy is not the goal; power is the goal.  Lofty-sounding policy is only a tool.  If they make a policy mess, so be it.  Look at healthcare, look at the economy, look at immigration, look at our foreign policy.  So what the left really wants is a constitution that helps them achieve and maintain power.  A constitution that allows them to do as they please.  Short of this, the left is more than happy to simply ignore the current Constitution.

Here's my point:  The conservative tendency to adhere to a constitution that the left ignores has led us to where we are today.  If the left is in charge of both the executive and the legislative branches of our government, and has fully politicized the Department of Justice, and is willing to use armed government agents as political operatives, all the while provided cover by a complicit press, and if they are willing to simply ignore the Constitution, then yes, the constitutional process is over.

Ignoring the constitution is the hallmark of a banana republic...

All this to ask conservatives this question:  In a banana republic, what is the process for transfer of power?  Because that is how we will have to fight for our values.  That is the only other path.

We must deploy Banana Republic Rules.

Fans of John Le Carré will recognize the terminology.  In his 1979 classic, Smiley's People, Moscow Rules refer to tactics to be deployed in the most dangerous theaters.  Here, I simply mean that if your opponent is the government of a banana republic, you have to fight with a different set of rules.

I'll let the reader define these for himself, but clearly they are necessarily extraconstitutional.
